OK, so I know this is terribly overdue, but here’s the update.

I went to see a hematologist. Nice man. He looked like Milton Burl and George Burns had a baby. He reviewed the blood work from my Denver doctor and the last set of blood work I had done with the Cincinnati doctor. My white blood cell (WBC) was even higher when I was in Cincy. It was 16k. Normal stops at 10.8k. In Denver, I was at 15k. So it was going down but he wasn’t sure why it had been up to begin with.

Many vials of blood were taken and when the results came back my WBC was down to 14k. They started me on iron, because apparently I am anemic and there is a relationship between high WBC counts and iron deficiency.

I saw him one more time. I was down to 12k on that visit and he said that it was all because of the lack of iron and that all of my other tests were normal (except my B12 was low, so I got a shot for that).

For now, it would appear disaster has been averted. I am curious about what caused the WBC to shoot so high, but oh well.
